ABSTRACT
The objective of the presented study was to examine the demand for services and other type of assistance provided for the disabled living in the rural areas in the Lublin Region. The study covered a group of 768 disabled females and 837 males, and was conducted by means of an anonymous survey carried out by a surveyor. As many as 98.75% of respondents confirmed the availability of a family physician, followed by the remaining medical specialists (77.19%), laboratory and hospital. The disabled in the study acquired knowledge concerning disability primarily from the media.
It is noteworthy that respondents had little knowledge pertaining to the possibilities of obtaining assistance from individual welfare institutions. The respondents considerably more often choose interpersonal than institutionalized assistance. For the majority of the disabled, the means of social communication are the most popular source of knowledge concerning disability.
