Introduction:
Regular check-up visits to a dentist play a crucial role in the maintenance of oral hygiene. Considering the considerable prevalence of dental caries and paradontal diseases, young Poles are characterized by high and increasingly growing prophylactic and treatment needs.

Objective:
The objective of the study was determination of the conditions of the use of dental check-up examinations among students of the State Higher Vocational School in Suwałki

Material and Methods:
The material for the study were data collected during the period 2013–2016 among 864 students of the first year of study at the State Higher Vocational School in Suwałki. The study was conducted by the method of a diagnostic survey, using a questionnaire designed by the author. In order to identify the conditions of dental check-up examination, multiple factor analysis with logistic regression was used.

Results:
The majority of students in the study controlled their state of oral health at a dentist at least once a year (37.7% – twice a year; 38.1% – once a year). A higher probability of participation in a dental check-up occurred in the case of women (OR 1.775; 95% CI: 1.249–2.521), and when the respondents’ material standard was good or very good (OR 1.584; 95% CI: 1.144–2.193). In the analysis of conditions of dental check-up examination, the variables describing health behaviours of the students had no statistical significance.

Conclusions:
Three per four students of the State Higher Vocational School in Suwałki control their state of oral health at a dentist at least once a year. Among the students in the study, dental prophylaxis is conditioned by socio-demographic factors, and is not related with health behaviours. A higher probability of regular check-up visits to a dentist occurred in the case of women, and persons with a higher material standard. Promotion of dental check-up examinations should be addressed especially to the students with a lower socio-economic status.
