Introduction and Objective: Pregnancy is the time that a woman should properly prepare for. It is necessary to undertake educational activities among women on the subject of proper diet and healthy behaviours. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge of students of three universities in Bialystok concerning proper nutrition during pregnancy.
Material and methods: The research was conducted among 129 women aged 19–26 studying at universities in Bialystok’s. 115 correctly completed questionnaires were used for analysis. The questionnaire consisted of questions concerning knowledge about the proper diet during pregnancy. Statistical analysis was performed by Statistica 12.0
Results: Many women declared that they did not know about the correct weight gain during pregnancy. Students from
the Medical University significantly more often gave the correct answer to the question about the right time to start
the proper diet while planning pregnancy. Many womenm declared that they did not have knowledge about changes
in energy requirement during pregnancy, or answered incorrectly, stating that energy requirement increases at the
beginning of pregnancy and remains constant until delivery. Large discrepancies were found in the responses regarding
the possibility of consumption of selected foods during pregnancy
Conclusions: The knowledge of the examined women about proper eating habits during pregnancy was insufficient. It is necessary to educate young women about proper nutrition during pregnancy and to pay special attention to the
recommendations for avoiding the consumption of selected products during pregnancy
