ABSTRACT
Introduction:
The occurrence of a somatic disease means that the affected persons and their immediate surroundings are forced to modify most of their life plans. This requires a constructive approach to the new situation, and launching new ways of coping and new adaptation mechanisms. It is advisable to look for the best solutions, pay attention to numerous, often negative emotions, and seek support from others. Therapies of many diseases are doomed to failure if the patient is unwilling or unable to actively engage in the process of treatment and recovery.

Objective:
The aim of the study is presentation of the effectiveness and efficiency of the use of health coaching in solving problems and difficulties occurring in patients with somatic diseases.

Brief description of the state of knowledge:
Every disease, including somatic, is a tremendous challenge for an individual, and significantly limits his/her current functioning in the family, social and occupational spheres. Professional health coaching, with a holistic approach to the patients will take into account all their needs, outline goals and help open up to knowledge and new experiences.

Conclusions:
Health coaching exerts an effect on the shaping ofa proper approach to health and illness, and is used in many medical disciplines. The coaching methods applied help patients take responsibility for their own health. Professionals who are appropriately prepared in this area play a key role in the success of this process.
