STRESZCZENIE
Osteoarthrosis, i.e. degenerative joint disease, is characterised by the atrophy of articular cartilage and subchondral tissue as a result of the disruption of balance between the processes of their regeneration and destruction. This disease is the most frequent form of functional joint disorders. It begins asymptomatically within the third decade of life, and at the age of over 50 there occurs an increase in morbidity, and to an equal degree concerns males and females alike. A primary or idiopathic osteoarthrosis and secondary osteoarthosis, which develops on the background of other diseases, are differentiated. The disease may concern one or many joints.
The procedure at the initial stage of the disease consists in non-surgical treatment - pharmacological and non-pharmacological, and mainly on rehabilitation in order to delay the progress of degenerative changes; in the case of very advanced changes and intensification of pain complaints
surgical treatment is applied.
