ABSTRACT
Ischemic heart disease is a very serious social problem. Health promoting physical activity is an acknowledged element of non-pharmacological treatment of ischemic heart disease. The objective of the study was the evaluation of physical activity among patients who had undergone myocardial infarction. The study was conducted based on a questionnaire form designed by the author, and covered 80 patients with past myocardial infarction treated in the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Specialist Hospital in Lublin, and the ‘RehaSend’ Outpatient Department in Lublin. After the event, physical activity decreased in 36.2% of patients in the study, while 12.5% of them reported an increase in physical activity, while in 51.3% this activity remained unchanged. Among the patients examined, limitations in physical activity resulted from fear concerning the recurrence of the disease. Present physical activity is perceived as satisfactory by 65.5% of respondents. Obesity, which was 26.3% in the population examined, is a highly alarming risk factor. Socio-demographic factors, i.e. gender, age, and education level, exert a significant effect on the knowledge concerning the allowable physical activity in patients who had undergone myocardial infarction
